Sony just recently announced that they will be discontinuing Playstation VUE at the end of January 2020. As you know, freeTVee is not a service provider and charges no monthly rate. Sony VUE, YouTube TV, Sling TV, etc. are the service providers for higher tier Sports, News, Cable (and sometimes Local Network channels, if you don’t have a free Antenna).
Fortunately, even with Sony VUE shutting down there is still way more competition in the world of Cord Cutting, especially compared to your old Cable and Satellite provider-who just recently announce more rate hikes...
Sling TV is the least expensive replacement, but is only recommended if you have a free Antenna for Local Network channels (Sling TV does NOT provide Local Network channels). If you can’t have or do not want an antenna for free Local Network channels, then we recommend YouTube TV (click either link for details & to take advantage of their free trial-offers). We have tested both Sling TV and YouTube TV for a long time.
We have not recommended YouTube TV until they recently became available on the Fire TV Stick and also didn’t recommend Sling TV for some customers until just recently when Sling TV added Fox News for $20 less a month. There are subtle differences of course, but here is a Cnet Review that hails YT TV as the best, even before this VUE announcement! YouTube TV works well, has more channels than VUE-plus you can even get Hallmark separately here or here.
The great thing about the hardware that freeTVee installs, is that once you have the hardware you are free to do what you want when you want. It’s as simple as signing up for whatever streaming provider you would like to use (YouTube TV or Sling TV) and then downloading that app on the Fire TV Stick!
We have recently updated our Support Page with lots of great DIY resources for all things Cord Cutting, but specifically YouTube TV and Amazon Fire TV Stick-if you need help setting it up or downloading the App. We also have a great You Tube TV Fire TV demo video below that we put together for your viewing pleasure. YouTube TV can also help you setup their streaming service, and even has a great how to install YouTube TV video. If you would rather have freeTVee handle the entire transition we also have an option for that too. If you sign up for our inexpensive annual Priority Support Plan we will come out one time in person and take care of everything for you (freeTVee still changes no monthly fees).
