One of the most common questions we get is this: do you guys install indoor antennas? The answer is always the same: NO! We do not install indoor antennas. In our history we have tried every kind of antenna you can imagine. From indoor to outdoor, from small to large. We have even installed motorized antennas. None of these work as well as the antenna we use day in and day out at our customer’s homes.
Don’t get us wrong – installing indoor antennas is sometimes the only option in apartments or condos but we are reluctant to do it because we cannot guarantee signal quality. With an outdoor antenna placed high on the roof or in the attic we can ensure that you will have uninterrupted signal on the channels we tune in. Indoor antennas do not allow us to point in the correct direction and this makes them subject to breakups and dreaded pixelation (the breakup of antenna signals that results in weird little squares on your TV screen). Along with that, indoor antennas usually don’t look great because they need to be high up on the wall as possible. This means you have a wire running down to the tuner jack behind your TV. This eyesore will eventually drive you nuts. When you hide an indoor antenna behind the TV, the TV itself will cause interference. That is why the old-timey TVs have the “rabbit ears” on top of the TV, not behind the TV.
The other problem with indoor antennas is that you will need one for each TV in your home. So, if you have three TVs you will need three indoor antennas. This means that you will spend $60 – $90 on antennas and it is highly probable that each TV will not tune the same channels because the antennas will all be facing in different directions.
